Nightbird Audience Node is a system that provides audiences with an interface to intervene in visual operations via smartphones during improvised visual performances using programming by Visual Jockeys (VJs), enabling audiences to support VJ performances while enjoying visual manipulation.
VJ play using improvised programming enables more complex and appealing expressions compared to typical VJ play that switches between multiple videos with predetermined effects such as cross-fading. However, while VJs are performing improvised programming, the visuals tend to become monotonous as the program is incomplete.
This system allows not only VJs but also audiences to adjust parameters related to program behavior using their smartphones. Additionally, it can integrate the results of parameter operations by multiple audiences and allows audiences to propose new parameters. This enables audiences to adjust visual expressions according to their preferences and participate in improvised visual performances with fun. As a result, improvised visual performances can have more diverse visual changes.
