Presentation at IPSJ SIG-EC Meeting

Our lab will give a presentation at the79th IPSJ SIG-EC Meeting, held March 9–10, 2026.

This work uses eye tracking to examine how the choice of presentation method and timing affects players’ gaze behavior during game tutorials.

We compared four conditions combining two presentation methods and two timing conditions. The methods were color-based highlighting and a focus effect. For the timing, the target was cued either while the explanatory text was still being displayed or only after it had finished.

Pseudo-tutorial screens used in the experiment. Left: color-based highlighting; right: focus display.

The results indicate that presentation timing has a greater influence on players’ attention allocation than the type of visual cue used.
