Call for Collaborative Research
We welcome requests for collaborative research and technical consultations from those interested in creating new forms of entertainment.
The form of collaboration may vary depending on what you wish to achieve and the structure of your organization, whether it be through joint or commissioned research, or technical consultation and cooperation. Therefore, we encourage you to initially reach out to us via email to discuss your ideas.
Joint / Commissioned Research
Joint research involves creating a collaborative research team between researchers and engineers from companies or research institutions and our laboratory personnel (faculty and students), working together to advance research projects. We envision close collaboration within the research team over a period of 1-3 years to tackle research themes.
Commissioned research involves organizing a research team within our laboratory to conduct research on themes commissioned from external organizations.
For detailed information about these programs, please also refer to the Industry-Academia-Government Collaboration Menu provided by our university’s Research and Intellectual Property Management Division.
We also occasionally accept joint or commissioned research in the form of workshops that organize hackathons for students, providing ideas through the creation of mockups and prototypes. This is particularly suitable when companies want students to develop application prototypes of basic technologies they have developed using students’ innovative ideas. In such cases, workshops are primarily conducted during intensive summer sessions.
A distinctive feature of our laboratory is that we sometimes accept joint research projects with specific stage performances or installation exhibitions in mind for practical applications. We also recommend applying through the joint research framework when providing various technologies held by our laboratory for performances or exhibitions. However, please note that our laboratory cannot take full responsibility for developing systems used in actual operational environments. We also cannot assume responsibility for on-site operations or maintenance. Our laboratory’s contribution is limited to providing fundamental technologies. However, we do provide development advice for on-site systems based on our extensive field experience, considering maintainability.
The research funding guideline is approximately 1 million yen per year per project as a base, adjusted according to the scale of the research team and theme, and required materials. This can vary significantly depending on the research content, so please consult with us first.
For examples of research themes we have worked on, please see the Research Projects page.
Technical Consultation
Faculty (Prof. Fukuchi) provides advice and consultation for research and technology development in companies. Students do not directly participate in this type of collaboration.
We have previously provided consultation on the following topics:
- Technical advice for interactive advertising systems (including mockup creation)
- System design advice for interactive video in theater and music live performances
- Idea provision regarding communication systems in future society
- Technical advice on entertainment robots
Donations
You can also support our laboratory’s research through donations. Donated funds are used for purchasing materials, enhancing research equipment, and covering students’ participation fees and travel expenses for conferences and exhibition events.
For information about the donation mechanism, please refer to the “Designated Recipient Donation” section on Meiji University’s Academic Research Encouragement Donation page.
